Strengthening ties of cooperation

In 2010 Heinz W. Engl, rector of the University of Vienna has been awarded an honorary professorship at Fudan University for his achievements in industrial mathematics and the mathematics of inverse problems.

Fudan University and the University of Vienna entered into a university-wide partnership in 2015. By signing a Strategic Partnership agreement, both universities commit to a growing and more intensive cooperation in the fields of research, teaching, student exchange and administration.

As a starting point, scientists of the Research Platform Data Science @ Uni Vienna and the Department of Philosophy of the University of Vienna travelled to Fudan University in spring of 2019. This initiative helped to map out future possibilities of cooperation.

Close cooperation in East Asia and beyond

The internationalisation strategy of the University of Vienna identifies East Asia as a focus region. With Fudan University and Peking University, the University of Vienna now has two Strategic Partner Universities in this region. Further Strategic Partners are the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the University of Chicago.

The International Office of the University of Vienna supports cooperation activities with Strategic Partner Universities through funding programs such as Mobility Fellowships (for research activities of three weeks to three months for predocs, postdocs and professors) and Joint Seminars (for workshops to develop joint research projects). Participation in these programs will be open for activities with Fudan University by October 2019.
