Curriculum Vitae:

Initially, Freddy Kleitz studied chemistry at Université Louis Pasteur of Strasbourg, in France, before joining in 1998 the group of Ferdi Schüth at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung (Department of Heterogeneous Catalysis) in Mülheim, Germany. After completing his PhD studies in inorganic chemistry in 2002, he joined the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in Daejeon, in South Korea, to work with Ryong Ryoo as a postdoctoral researcher. In September 2003, he returned to the MPI in Mülheim as Max-Planck fellow researcher. In February 2005, he was appointed as Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry of Université Laval in Quebec City, Canada. He was awarded the Canada Research Chair on Functional nanostructured materials, Tiers 2 (junior). In 2010, he was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor and, in 2014, to the rank of Full Professor. In June 2016, Freddy Kleitz has been appointed as a University Professor at the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Vienna, where he is the Head of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry - functional materials.

His main research interests are the design of functional nanoporous materials and exploring their properties as selective sorbents, heterogeneous catalysts, and biomedical materials. Since 2001, he has published over 120 refereed research articles, communications and book chapters, cited more than 5000 times (H index = 36). He is regularly invited as a speaker at conferences, in academia or industry, around the world. In 2011-2012, he was a visiting professor in the ARC Centre for Functional Nanomaterials (Australia Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, University of Queensland, Brisbane). Since October 2014, he is also a guest Professor at the China University of Petroleum in Qingdao, China.
