Am 7. Oktober 2011 hielt João Alves von der Fakultät für Geowissenschaften, Geographie und Astronomie seine Antrittsvorlesung zum Thema "From darkness to light: the origins of stars and planets".

João Alves ist seit Februar 2010 Professor für Stellare Astrophysik am Institut für Astronomie der Universität Wien.

Since February 2010, João Alves holds the professorship for Stellar Astrophysics at the Department of Astronomy. On October 7, 2011, he held his inaugural lecture "From darkness to light: the origins of stars and planets".
